Mountains of Laundry free essay sample
When I came to college, both my parents as well as the faculty told me that I need to concentrate on my school work and finish what needs to get done. At which point most of us are thinking, yeah right, more like concentrate on partying. For the most part, students are good at getting work done. Did I really just say that? Some majors in college have loads of work such as architecture. On the other hand, other majors have not so much work, which means much more free time. During students free time (rare), this is when laundry Is done, as well as grabbing something to eat and finishing the tall stacks of homework. In my situation, free time is for starting laundry and taking a nap while it is in the process. Once you feel great about yourself for deciding to finally wash the mountain of dirty clothes, you experience many obstacles between washing your clothes, and having nice, clean clothes. We will write a custom essay sample on Mountains of Laundry or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Two out of the three times that I have wanted to do laundry, and lugged huge bags of clothes to the laundry room, I found out that I couldnââ¬â¢t wash them. Some students may think of this in a positive way like the workout they just got carrying the clothes all the way downstairs. The laundry room has only so many washers and dryers. The buildings that we live in have a lot of students in them. When a student is thinking of doing laundry, a lot of other students had that same idea too. Some attempts at laundry end up in lugging those heavy laundry bags all the way back to your room. Who needs a school gym when you can just try to do your laundry and hit two birds with one stone. I feel that the size of the laundry rooms compared to the buildings dont match. For a building this size, the laundry room should either be larger, or there should be multiple laundry rooms. Most people can compare this to something in their own life. When growing up, everyone has had a time when they wo re that shirt that was way too small for them. It is just a situation that needs to be solved quickly, and is rather uncomfortable. Another problem relating to the laundry room has to do with the quality of the dryers. Once a load of clothes goes through the washer, which works great, the clothes are soaking wet. That is what a dryer is used for. Dryers in the laundry rooms are not of great quality. So itââ¬â¢s a beautiful Friday afternoon, and I have a train to catch home in three hours, and I think to myself, I have plenty of time to do laundry. The washing phase goes over very well, and then comes the drying phase. One cycle ends with a load of wet clothes, as if they never reached the dryer. I repeated the drying phase as I thought to myself ââ¬ËTrain leaves in one and a half hoursââ¬â¢. I put the load of laundry through the dryer twice and still had wet clothes, which is when I gave up. This is not only a hassle, but it is a waste of time, hence catching the train a solid minute before it left. Once you put the clothes in the dryer, you cant just leave them there all day, it only takes 60 minutes t o ââ¬Å"dryâ⬠. Who wants to wear wet clothes to class, especially in the winter? No one. You would freeze, and more than likely get hypothermia. There is one upside to this situation, that being once spring break comes around. Instead of students migrating to the south to go to the spring break parties and resorts, we can host our own here. My college could have its own wet t-shirt contest, seeing that our dryers donââ¬â¢t work, so lets all wear our white tââ¬â¢s! With my college being mostly guys, I have a feeling that they would be for this, while the small percentage of ladies would frown upon it. If you leave clothes in the dryer all day, it is guaranteed that when you come back they will be on the table behind you in a heap. Someone has taken them out in order to use the dryer because someone wasnââ¬â¢t quick enough, that being you. I feel that Wentworth should change this for the students. Many people, as well as myself, have wasted time doing laundry. I feel that laundry takes awhile as it is, never mind when obstacles are tossed in your way. By fixing the dryers, as well as getting more washers and dryers would make life on students much easier. They would have more time to get work done, which in turn would cause less stress. If another small room was added, it would make it much easier for students and in turn, we would be better people. Clean clothes are a necessity, because a student can only bring so many clothes to school. You may have enough clothes to last a week, but thatââ¬â¢s about it. (I say this only having seen the amount of clothes a typical guy brings to college, and not underestimating females.) That is why I feel that something should be done about this problem, which in turn would affect all Wentworth students for the better.

To avoid minimizing the critical message regarding the African-Americans struggle for the freedom, I will explore the issues, culture and experiences, which influenced the attitudes of bell hooks. In doing so, I hope to arouse the same passion in you that I have developed while researching the Harlem Renaissance through Postmodern years; that is, a passion to give back to Black Americans their spot in the text with those who had an impact on the history of America . From the end of World War I through the middle of the 1930s Depression, the period which became know as the Harlem Renaissance, there was a tremendous body of literature produced in the form of poetry, fiction, drama, and essay. The significance of that fact is well hidden from our public school curriculum; the significance being that those magnificent contributions were made by African-Americans. Names like Claude McKay in his Spring in New Hampshire; W.E.B.Du Bois (founder of the NAACP) writes his Darkwater and The Gift of Black Folk; Jessie Fauset writes There is Confusion; Countee Cullen won the first prize in the Witter Bynner Poetry Competition; and others like Langston Hughes, Zora Neale Hurston, Alain Locke with multiple contributions as well. Working Mothers Benefit Familes Vs Stay-at-Home Mothers Benefit Essay
Working Mothers Benefit Familes Vs Stay-at-Home Mothers Benefit Families - Essay Example One major reason for which working mothers have been praised is the influence that they have on their children. It has been observed that the children of working mothers have a generally positive attitude towards women. The thoughts on sex and gender roles are also less rigid as compared to their counterparts. Their daughters and especially have an acquired and greater self esteem and a more positive view of themselves as workers in the society at large. Meanwhile, the sons acquire a positive attitude of shared roles that they take to their own marriages. The overall effect of working mothers would be an increased number of women in the labor force, as equal partners with men. This would mean that the attitudes of children and their psychologies would be less focused on their sexes or gender (Valente, 272). Additionally, working mothers, contend that there are more positives than negatives to being a working mother both from a family and a personal standpoint (Valente, 270). Such a situation ensures that the woman gets a varied life that is not confined to the home. Unlike staying at home mothers whose experiences are the same, working mothers say that the interactions that they have with their husbands are mostly at a peer to peer level, the financial position of the family is complimented and as a result the needs of the family are quickly and easily met. The typical day of a working mother involves the duties of a mother in addition to her responsibilities as a worker. Such women sometimes get the advantages of both sides but the disadvantages of only one side, being a working mother. While it is true that they may employ the services of a housekeeper or baby sitter, there are others who do not. Moreover, such a move would detach them from their families and children if their whole focus is on their careers. On the contra side, there are quite a number of women who are opting or reconsidering the idea of becoming stay at home

Should cars be more efficient Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
Should cars be more efficient - Essay Example Lately, there have been world issues that have resulted in ââ¬Å"unprecedented high costs of gasoline,â⬠and consumers are feeling the effect of this increasingly (Barke, et al., 2009, 62). There is also the issue of reducing the environmental footprint of vehicles, as they are made more efficient. Despite the increasing need for efficiency in cars, there has not been significant progress until the past decade or so. Strategies prior to this time revolved around ââ¬Å"weight reduction through material substitutionâ⬠(Chialin & Jun, 2008, 22-23). The small lightweight cars tend to be more efficient than the full-size sport utility vehicles. Other hurdles in the development process were not tackled early on, and as a result, the ââ¬Å"technology efficient frontierâ⬠¦ did not improve significantly,â⬠until the most recent time (Chialin & Jun, 2008, 30). Not everyone struggles to meet ends meet, nor do all hold the environment as the most important artifact in the world. On average however, many do have to compromise, and a major hurdle to consumers adopting efficient technology has been that these hybrid, or more efficient cars ââ¬Å"have been substantially more than comparable conventional vehiclesâ⬠(Barke, et al., 2009, 71). Even though the need for more efficient technology is increasing, there are many economic restraints in ââ¬Å"raw material costs and availability,â⬠that means until now that conventional engines dominate in their affordability (Lang et al., 2011, i). However, conditions are improving and the many types of efficient technology can mean that the idea of an efficient car can head towards mass adoption rather than appealing to a smaller niche market. As the masses can afford efficient cars, and fuel costs continue to rise, there will likely be many more developments in these type of locomotive composites, at an increasing rate. As the
